We have had .26 inches of rain as of 5:15 this morning. I was a little surprised that it was only barely over a quarter of an inch, with as hard as it was raining at my house at 4:00 this morning when I got up. But that's a good thing, it's enough to help us out a little, but not to much to cause any real damage. We did have a little damage on # 16 from the plugged HOA drain half way down the fairway on the right side, but it was minor. And of course, the driveway coming into the club had some standing water, but it wasn't much and the small drain that is there took care of it.
Now, was anyone wondering why we had sprinklers running this morning after it had just finished raining? It was because right after a rain is usually a pretty good time to put out fairway fertilizer. The two most important factors that make it a good time, are that it dissolves the fertilizer faster because it is also getting moisture from below as well as from the above irrigation, and second is that there is a pretty good chance it will not get as trampled from golf cart traffic because of less play. If fertilizer is partially dissolved but not completely dissolved, cart tires will smash the fertilizer releasing all it's nitrogen in one place, which causes the plant to burn. That is why you can sometimes see those brownish looking tire tracks in fairways and roughs.
Did anyone see former GM Jack Deal and Former F & B Manager and current Coto de Caza GM Eric Boberg playing golf yesterday? It was nice to see them out here and get some feedback on what they thought of the course. (both had all good comments)
