I thought some of you might like to see what those huge Carp in our lakes look like out of the water. This one died this week and it took two guys to lift it into the cart. (Note that Rogelio is using the chain hoist to hold it up while we took the picture) I wish there was some way to determine how old it was.
This has been a tough week with pumps. We had our 3-hp pressure maintenance pump go down this week. The pumps only function is to keep the irrigation lines pressurized at all times. That way, when we turn on some sprinklers they start immediately and we don't have to wait for the miles of pipe to fill with water. Keeping the lines always pressurized will also help keep the water lines from breaking caused by an air lock in the system. Fortunately, when we installed the new pump station a while back, we had the hindsight to upgrade the 25-hp jockey pump with a VFD (variable frequency drive) installed on it. Because of the VFD we are now able to use the 25-hp pump to keep the lines pressurized, so it's not a panic situation. The quote to replace the 3-hp PMP is $3,500.00 plus labor.
We have also been having several problems with our injector pump. We have been trying to inject fertilizer and iron the last 3 or 4 nights, but something always seems to go wrong. It's different every night and thankfully nothing serious. However, we did shut it down for the weekend because we didn't want to take a chance on causing a major problem until we could devote the proper time to look into it better.
