On Monday we closed the two Front Driving Range Tees for over-seeding. Everything went well and we finished in the record time of two days. We are also right on schedule for seeding the accounting office and entrance islands. Those areas should be completed later this week. I hope the entire over-seeding goes this smooth.
I have a good feeling about this year. One reason is that we got our brand new set of verti-cut reels for prepping the greens. Unlike our old reels that only fit our oldest tee mowers, these new reels fit on our newest greens mowers and will have substantially more power. This extra power alone will speed up the greens preparation process, and if we're luck, it just might allow us to make one or two less passes on the greens to prepare the seed bed. That would really speed things up.
Tomorrow, Dr. Frank Wong PhD. from the University of California, Riverside, will be here to start some test plots for the control of Ptyhium disease in over-seeded turf. He will be marking out several plots on the driving range tee and be treating them with various chemicals at various rates, to determine which works best. This type of research is very important to our profession as it saves us valuable time and money not having to find out this information on our own by trial and error.
