Golf Committee
Minutes of meeting on 2010-01-28
In attendance – Brian Dyer (Chair), Bobbie McAlpine, Jennifer Dammeyer, Annika Wilkes, Bruce Cameron, Tim Skogen, John Hubbuch, Andy Zamiara. Regrets Tom Shephard, Al Egge
Business arising from last meeting
Condition of Golf carts (some running out of battery power). Tim Skogen advised that representatives from EZ GO had visited the club and tested the batteries. They determined if batteries reached a pre-determined threshold and if not, provided new batteries. In some cases the 6 batteries in each cart were ‘mixed and matched’ with other batteries, resulting in the 80 golf carts having functional power. Special care will be taken to ensure that there is a good rotation in the usage of the fleet. The leasing contract for the fleet expires in December 2010 and the renewal situation will be addressed in due course. In 7 cases it was determined that the brakes were not functional and this issue is being addressed.
The EZlinks booking software was discussed and Jennifer was provided with some comments as to how it might be further improved. Overall, the committee was pleased with the recent software changes. Each committee member was encouraged to provide Jennifer with details, in writing, of any remaining deficiencies
New computer for posting scores. Tim advised that this is not functional to date, but should be in action soon. Some committee members noted that it was easier to simply post the scores from a home computer.
Divot repair party. Jennifer advised that the recent event was cancelled because of the weather, but is being re-scheduled for Feb 26th, a Friday. An announcement will be made soon. In addition, Andy Zamiara will be introducing a plan to link club members with a particular hole, in order to have the members take ‘ownership’ of a particular hole, as far as divots and greens repair is concerned.
Report from the Head Pro – Jennifer Dammeyer.
We were advised that a successful start to the Governors cup was made on Wednesday, with more participants than the previous year. Registrations are underway for the Member /Member and the Derby, as far as the men are concerned.
Jennifer was quizzed about the scope of the Marshalls work and the committee stressed the need for each outside player to be advised about the gates and repairing divots etc. In addition, the Marshalls should be monitoring slow play and speaking to golfers who drive golf carts on to prohibited areas (near green and on the grass beside the tees)
The GHIN system is now underway and there are about 20 people who still have 2 numbers. These people are to uses their former number (+9) and ensure that the pro-shop staff are aware of this situation, so that it can be remedied.
Report from the General Manager.
In the absence of Tom Shephard, Tim commented on the very acceptable condition of the course. There were a few comments about marks on the greens, which might be a result of the recent rains. Also discussed was the lack of grass along some of the edges alongside some cart paths. Tim advised he would pass these comments along to the Superintendent. Discussions ensued about the use of the ‘Gates’ and it was recognized that we should now continue for the rest of the season without any further changes- to avoid confusion. This topic should be resurrected again in a few months time, to determine if any alternations are required for next season. The focus now is to ensure that golfers understand what they are supposed to do, and ensure they follow the policy. We were advised that some golfers are still not following policies and in particular, driving onto the fairway on the 14th and also still driving golf carts as close as possible to greens and Tees. Carts should not be past the exit gates and should remain on the cart path near tees.
Other matters
The committee discussed availability of tee times, and in particular the pressure on tee times for the WGA who now have 167 members. Ronda Manspeaker outlined the issues and Jennifer said management would review the situation and revert to Ronda with their proposals.
