There have been some questions lately on the condition of the greens. Their current condition are the result of several factors, all of which are temporary. In past years we have done our annual deep drill aerification in early to mid May, but we were asked to move it back several weeks to June 1st & 2nd (after the Memorial Day weekend) for obvious reasons. This aerification allows water and air to penetrate into the soil, softening up the greens and helps to keep them healthy. It also helps delay transition (winter grass dying, summer grass taking over). Another factor is the strong winds that we have had during the nights and it's effect on the coverage of our irrigation water. Unfortunately, we have very few quick coupler hook-ups where we can plug in a hose to hand water the greens. We are however, in the process of changing out all the green side sprinklers to a new type of head that has an adjustable trajectory, which should help correct this problem going forward. Also, because of these economic times and budgetary challenges, we have been conserving our greens fertilizer so we can fertilize them heavy just before and again right after aerification. This will greatly increase there recovery time. (We are scheduled to fertilize them tomorrow and again on June 8th).
I hope this helps you understand the current conditions a little better and the challenges we face. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time should you have any questions.
