As much as I absolutely love the holiday season, I am beginning to really dislike the month of December. Especially in a year where we have a heavy frost in late November, not to mention several days of heavy frost like this year. For some reason when this happens, people seem to think it's the course superintendents fault that the course doesn't look so good. In fact, yesterday a member yelled to me as I drove past the putting green "Hey Tom, I hope they don't assassinate you!" Lovely, just lovely. Does anyone really think that we want our golf courses to look or play bad? We are dealing with a living organism here. One that is only about 45 days old. Yet we expect it to be able to withstand anything that comes it's way and act as if it were a hearty mature plant. And when it doesn't, it's the superintendents fault. Why is it that whenever they have a hard freeze in Florida and they lose the orange crop, it's rotten luck caused by bad weather? You never hear anyone blame the grower. Yet, it's totally different when it's a golf course.
OK, I'm through venting. I just think it's very unfair, because we work extremely hard to do everything within our power to put out the best product.
