I trust everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and after today, will have all there Christmas shopping done and be able to enjoy the rest of the holidays. Sometimes I can be quite the dreamer. Anyway, Fridays are a short day for my staff because of working week-ends. It's also the day I try to get caught up on paying invoices, making phone calls and other paperwork. As I'm sitting here today trying to pay attention to what I should be doing, my thoughts keep going back to wondering if there is anything else we might be doing to keep the golf course in the best possible condition through these next few months. December is always the toughest. The days keep getting shorter and that means less daylight to help keep the plant growing and less heat going into the ground to keep the roots active and taking up the nutrients that keep everything green, healthy and growing. If you add a couple of nights of frost on top of that, things can start to look pretty ugly. Any Bermuda grass still around instantly turns bright yellow. Fortunately though, by mid January the days are getting longer and it's starting to warm up, the Bermuda isn't as yellow any more and everything is starting to look good again.
