That was a nice little rain shower we had today, although I probably enjoyed it more then you did.
I guess this might be a good time to explain what is going on with that entrance drain and why it's always flooded when it rains. Most of the parking lot and street water runs into the drain on the East Side of our entrance driveway where it collects. There is a 10 or 12-inch drain cover giving the appearance of a large drainpipe that carries the water off. However, that is not the case. The drain cover is over top of basically a dry well. (A dry well soaks the water into the ground) It does have a 2-inch pipe to help carry the water off. The water flows from the dry well into our lake on the left side of 10 fairway. The problem is that a 2-inch pipe is not nearly big enough to handle the amount of water that is funneled into that drain. It will drain out in a relatively short amount of time once water is no longer being funneled into it, but it will always appear “backed up” as long as it is still raining. (More water going in then is going out) Now, the reason that it was installed with a 2-inch pipe instead of a larger size that could handle that amount of water, is because there is not enough “drop” from the drain to the lake. If a larger pipe were installed, whenever the lake was full, the water would flow in the opposite direction, from the lake into the driveway and parking lot.
