We have noticed that several members (and non-members) are using the bunker rakes to assist themselves in exiting the bunkers. These rakes are not designed to support that kind of weight. It is causing the screw hole in the fiberglass handle to become enlarged which causes the screw itself to loosen or fall out. The screw holds the handle to the rake head, keeping it firmly in place. Once the hole becomes enlarged and the screw loosens or falls out, the rake head will swivel on the handle. There is no real way to discover that the head has become loose unless you actually use the rake or you physically check each one. We do move the rakes around as needed, but unless the handle is broken or the head is broken or loose enough to spin when picked up, then we do not know that there is a problem. Unfortunately we do not have the manpower to check all 263 bunker rakes on a weekly basis. So if you find a problem with a rake, please let someone know. You can tell or give it to a Marshall or Cart Staff and they will make sure to let us know. Then we can repair or replace it.
Thank you.
