Let's talk divots.
I would like to talk a little bit about the proper way to fill divots. Most golfers have a tendency to over-fill them. Divots should be filled to between 1/4 to 1/8 inch BELOW the existing turf line. Over-filling divots is actually worst then not filling them at all, even if you smooth the sand out with your foot. When a mowers hits those over-filled divots, it will scrape the top layer off for the first two or three mowing's, causing it to actually take longer to get the divot to fill in. It not only removes any new turf that was trying to grow, it drastically speeds up the dulling of the cutting unit itself, causing a poorer quality of cut. If each hole has 50 to 100 over-filled divots, you can imagine how fast it can dull the cutting units by running through all of that sand. So, thank you so much for filling your divots but please be aware to not over-fill them.
