I returned from the GCSAA Conference & Show in San Diego on Saturday (which was excellent) and brought a fellow superintendent from Victoria Canada out to play some golf on Sunday. We started on the back nine and finished on the front nine. I had an 88 total (an ugly first nine), but was rather pleased with my second nine score of 36. But boy was I surprised when I saw how shaggy the tees were. We had fertilized them right before I left last week because they were yellow and not growing at all. It's amazing what some fertilizer and 80 degree weather can do. First thing this morning we mowed the tees, then lowered the height of cut and re-mowed them again. Later this week we are also going to lower the height of cut on the greens slightly. That should help keep the speed up as they are starting to grow rapidly in this heat. We may need to slightly lower the height of the fairways pretty soon also, if it stays this warm.
