I had a very productive and informative meeting yesterday with Mr. Kevin Ramsey of GolfPlan Architecture, who is a partner of Ron Fream, our original course designer. We toured the entire golf course and looked at every bunker. We also looked at the golf course and discussed possible future turf reduction areas. I was a little surprised at how much he agreed with me on what I though could be done to reduce some overall maintenance to our course. I was also just as surprised on a number of thoughts he had that I had not thought of. He brought an aerial map that had all the yardages from the tees to the bunkers. He explained that because of today's better golf equipment, a number of bunkers could possibly be taken out or reduced in size because they no longer really come into play. It was also interesting to watch him point out and explain how the edges on so many bunkers had been edged back so far over the years that they now had a severe slope (or face) that was not originally there. He had some great ideas on how to reduce maintenance without taking away any of the character of the course. I'm am looking forward to getting his report along with an estimated cost for a project of this size.
