As many of you that are still in town may have noticed, the new fairway bunker on number 11 has not yet had any sand added to it, even though it was the first bunker built. The reason is because that it is one of the few bunkers that it was decided that needed drainage. The new bunker on 4 green will also have drainage added. Drainage was not deemed necessary in most of the bunkers because of our unique situation of having 100% blow sand as a base. Most properties have heavy organic or clay soils which will retain water. Our blow sand is a natural drain. If you remember, we did not have an issue with standing water in the bunkers until about 3 or 4 years ago when all the silt washed to the bottom of the bunkers from the exposed sloped edges. That shows us that it took better then 20 years before that contamination started to cause a problem. That being said, any bunker that we feel might even have the slightest possibly of having an issue with holding water, will have drainage added. They will probably wait to start working on those drains until they complete the bunkers on number 4 green, so they can order all the supplies at once.
