We have had reports that the Crows have been picking at the putting green, which is true. But the real problem is that we have a family of Raccoons in the area that have been digging for grubs. We know it's Raccoons because some of my guy's have seen some homeowners feeding them. The interesting thing is that they are only digging in the area of the chipping green that was newly expanded this year. The reason for that is because when we spray the greens for grub control, we only spray slightly outside the green surface. Now we have enlarged that area substantially beyond the areas previously treated and they are searching for the grubs in the areas untreated. If you know of any homeowners feeding the raccoons (or any wildlife for that matter) please explain to them that it is not only not good for the golf course, but that it is not good for the animals themselves. First off, most wild animals do not process people food very well causing them to become sick or sometimes even killing them. But more importantly, the ones that can process that kind of food will become dependent on someone feeding them and will no longer feed themselves. Which will cause them to die if they are no longer fed for some reason. If they do start to feed themselves again, they will start invading peoples trash or even their homes in search of people food. Nether of which are good.
