Well, we open up the course in about 5-minutes and I sure would like to have another week. But even if we did have another week, I'd probably still want another one after that. That's just the way we superintendents are. Anyway, the reason I would like that extra week is strictly related to looks and nothing to do with playability. I would just like to have some extra time to let the fairways green up a little more from the chemical treating of the Bermuda grass that leaves them looking a little yellowish in color. The extra time would also allow the fertilizer to kick in better. However, on a brighter note, this year we have the greens and fairways both mowed at the lowest height that we have ever had them for opening day, so they should play better right off then in previous years.
