We have been trying to get the hump in the cart path on hole number eight fixed for quite some time now. I thought that we were finally going to find the time to get it done today. Silly me, I had forgotten that we have our monthly departmental safety training scheduled for today. At least we were able to get it started by saw cutting the cart path where the bad area is. Now we just need to pull out the old concrete an pour in some new concrete and make it level. Hopefully we can get it completed next week.

Speaking of safety and training, the first of the year is when all course maintenance employee's need to be given an updated annual training course for OSHA, Pesticides and Hazardous Material Handling. A current signed written training document must be filed in the office and available to an inspector at any time. January is also when our Business Emergency Plan needs to be updated and submitted to the Riverside County Hazardous Materials Department. This written plan includes everything an employee or public official needs to know about our maintenance facility in the event of an emergency. It shows our evacuation plan and meeting area. It individually lists all chemicals on property, along with there fire and health warnings. It also shows any other type of hazardous material stored on property and the location where it is stored at. It has a map that shows the property and the location of emergency shut-offs for water, gas and electric. It also lists an emergency contact person and phone number along with a Prevention, Mitigation, Abatement, Earthquake, Hazardous Waste Contingency and Unauthorized Release Response Plans. These plans must also be discussed with all golf maintenance employees and have written documentation on file. A new year is always so much fun.

I just got word that we have a (live) broken water line in one of the islands coming in the entrance to the club. Why do these always seem to happen at the end of the day and always on a Friday or a Holiday? Well, gotta go.

Be extra careful out there tonight and have a safe and fun time.
