I went down to Morgan Run on Wednesday to meet with Dan on several issues and take a look at the golf course for him. I even got to play a few holes. I was surprised to see as many of our Desert Falls Members as I did. It's nice to see that they are taking advantage of being able to play other properties.
Anyway, one of the reasons I met with Dan was to discuss our over-seeding for this year. Corporate had previously been discussing the possibility of not seeding some areas at some of our properties, such as the driving range and a couple of the "out of play" areas here on our course. I'm hoping to convince everyone that until we can get better control of our irrigation, it would be best to continue over-seeding everything as in the past. The argument being that the non-seeded areas would be somewhat unsightly and not conducive to selling memberships or achieving favorable member survey scores. If successful, the driving range would not stay open during over-seeding as previously stated. It would close on September 21, 2009 and re-open on October 24, 2009. Keep checking back here as I will update this situation as information becomes available.
We noticed that we were getting some Cutworm activity on the greens lately, so this week we sprayed for the Cutworms and added some Iron just for improved color. We have also had increased Ant activity so we have contacted Vector Control to come out and re-treat the course. Unfortunately, their entire staff is committed to mosquito control right now, so they were unable to give me a date that they would be available. Hopefully it won't be too long.
