Here are some of the topics discussed during our regional meetings last week.
Thank you all for attending the Road Show this past week. It is always great to get together and share ideas as it all makes us better superintendents. For your reference, below is a summary of the topics that we discussed. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.
1. Morale. We need to make sure that we do what is needed to keep the morale of our EP's as high as possible. Carne asada's, pizza etc are all good ways to reward EP's. I am sure there are other ideas out there to help, just be sure to utilize them.
2. Communication. It is always better to over communicate then to under communicate. Make sure that your GM is aware of any issues that could impact the facility. You all do a great job, so keep it up this year.
3. Weekly issues report. These are due every Monday by the end of the day. Along with the normal information, I would like to have you keep us abreast of any budget issues that may impact your course. Please make sure you also forward a copy to your GM. If there are issues that a picture will show clearer, attach one to the report.
4. 2010 Golf Game. We will be getting more information on the golf game contest that will run from period 4 to period 12 this year with the winner in our region getting an all expense paid trip to the GIS in 2011. (Avendra compliance, weekly reports, budget, Audubon progress, and safety will all be part of the game).
5. Audubon. This year we need to see some progress from all of the clubs with the Audubon Certification Program. I know that everyone is busy, but if we all set aside 2 hours a week I believe we can start to make progress. Let's show everyone our stuff!
6. Government Inspections. All governmental inspections should always be included in your weekly report. Also please make sure that all of your required permits are up to date and be prepared to share them with me during my visits. There is word on the street that some inspectors are getting very picky in an effort to drive revenue, so let's not have to pay.
7.Equipment. Unfortunately, we have more wants for equipment then we have money for. I have received your lists and will prioritize the region to Doug and we will hopefully get as much equipment as we can. Get with your accountant and go through the fixed asset list and remove any equipment that is gone, dead, or depreciated out.
8. Capital. All capital projects must have the new CAR form completed and sent to Jim Oliver. Please make sure that Doug Miller and myself are copied on any capital projects that are scheduled for your course. You have all done a good job of presenting your project requests so keep it up.
I believe we have the opportunity to shine again this year. Your professionalism and dedication last year will be carried over this year and I look forward to solving any challenges that we will be faced with as we forge through 2010. Thank you all again.
