I know there are going to be a lot of questions about the color of the fairways this year. With the warm temperatures we had in September along with the rain and all the natural nitrogen that comes with it, there was an abundance of Bermuda grass that came back this year. After discussions with our Regional Agronomist David Hay, we decided it would be best to be pro-active and chemically control the Bermuda. If we would have left it untreated it would have looked much better at opening, but we stood the chance that the Bermuda would choke out all the new Rye grass. That would have left us not only looking bad, but playing bad throughout December and January. This way we will look bad (but play OK) for the first few weeks and should be in much better condition throughout December and January. Please feel free to contact me if you would more information on the subject, or any other.
