On Tuesday we will start selectively taking down some of the ropes and stakes. A few of the thinner fairways that have been spot seeded will continue to stay roped until we feel they are healthy enough for cart traffic. On some holes, only half the ropes will come down. You can really start to see a lot of new growth coming up in the areas where the Bermuda has been knocked down and has yellowed. You can especially see the new growth early in the mornings before the fairways are mowed because you can see the new blades of Rye grass sticking up over top of the Bermuda. It is much more difficult to see after it has been mowed, because of how thin the new grass blades are. Once the new grass starts to tiller (split into 3, 5, 7 or more leaf blades per plant) the fairways will really start to thicken up like they did last year. Let's just hope the weather warms up so that all of the new growth doesn't stall or shut down. We really need it to start growing and tiller before we get that first frost.
